Stockholm Challenge Award 2010

The public can now enjoy easy and convenient access to the latest Government news, information and a suite of services across all government agencies, thanks to the newly revamped portal and its app for iPhone which were officially launched on 1st June 2010.

Ecquaria is the technology solutions partner for the Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts (MICA) in support of the latest efforts by the Singapore Government to enhance its online presence and connect with the public more effectively.

Presented in a refreshing layout and branded with a new tagline “Connecting you with the Government”, the new portal is positioned as a first-stop gateway for citizens to access the latest government news updates and e-services from a single platform.

The transformed portal has a stronger focus on communicating the government news of the day to the public. Citizens will enjoy the convenience of going to just one website for their daily news dosage, or have alerts via Twitter, RSS feeds or email delivered directly to their desktops.

The public can also enjoy the convenience of accessing electronic-services, calendar of government events and directory of contact information from a single platform.

With an increasing number of people accessing news and information on-the-go, the Singapore Government also introduced its new app for iPhone to extend and complement its online presence.

Mr Zaqy Mohamad, Member of Parliament (MP) for Hong Kah GRC and chairman of the Government Parliamentary Committee (GPC) for MICA who officiated the launch noted the role that websites play in engaging citizens and urged the public sector to stay attuned to emerging technologies and changing consumption patterns as well as to identify ways of improving service delivery via the websites and mobile platforms.

RADM(NS) Sim Gim Guan, Deputy Secretary (Information and Corporate Management) MICA said the availability of the new government-centric application on the App Store will enable iPhone users to get the latest government news and updates anywhere, anytime.

This was part of a continuous effort to explore new ways to reach out to the public, particularly the increasingly mobile and younger generation, he added.

“We are pleased to be given the opportunity to participate in this landmark project of the Singapore Government to help transform and define a new electronic communications platform for the government,” said Dr Foong Wai Keong, President & CEO of Ecquaria Technologies.

Emphasizing on Ecquaria’s commitment towards supporting the government’s initiative, he added, “The addition of the new iPhone app is just some of the exciting features we are offering to deliver dynamic content to the palms of the increasing number of mobile users who are also getting younger and more tech-savvy.” Moving forward, he said he hopes to work closely with MICA to provide similar applications to make the website more user friendly to more mobile users.

iPhone users can download the free app from App Store through iTunes.
