"Not all are called to be entrepreneurs" - this statement seems to put a damper on the aspirations of a group of third-year Business and Computing students. This is, however, a nugget of wisdom from the founder of Ecquaria, Dr Foong Wai Keong who was invited to share his entrepreneurial experience at the Nanyang Technological University's School of Computer Engineering in February 2009.
Trying to be someone when you are not is not going to lead you to success - entrepreneur or not. It boils down to the basic tenets of being real, passionate and knowing oneself better. Staying hungry, innovative and working hard are just as important as getting the right partners whom you can trust alongside with formulating a sound business model. These are some of the tips offered by Dr Foong who is President and CEO of the successful 11 year-old homegrown software company.
Last but not least, the affable veteran quipped "Stay humble and enjoy the company of family and friends because they will be the ones seeing you through the ups and downs of your entrepreneurial journey."
