Ecquaria was honoured to give a keynote address at the 3rd Malaysian Software Engineering Conference on 3rd December 2007 organized by the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, University Putra Malaysia at the Palace Beach and Spa, Seri Kembangan, Selangor.
Dr Foong Wai Keong presented on the topic "Towards a Service-Oriented Organization" in line with the seminar’s theme "Striving for High Quality Software". In the design of software applications, Dr Foong called for a paradigm shift in using a process-based approach as opposed to the traditional functional approach widely taught in schools.
The process approach empowers organizations to manage their business processes by taking each of the processes through the dynamic lifecycle of process design, process execution and monitoring. Dr Foong challenged the software industry to start cultivating a new breed of process consultants who are adept at building service-oriented infrastructures. These infrastructures should be built by enforcing a service mindset as an immutable forethought, enabling Service Level Agreements to be established, tracked and delivered throughout the service delivery process.
The annual conference aims to bring together researchers and practitioners from the academia, industry and government to advance state-of-the-art research and practice in software engineering.
Other keynote speakers invited were from the National ICT Australia, NICTA and Infosys Technologies.
